Dorris
"Come, git down here girl, no charge you got ta git here." The gaudy women demanded. Was this a test for re-inventing herself? Would the new Mayson get her palm read? Sure why not if it was no charge. She sat down on the edge of the folding metal chair in front of the women's table and took a long swallow of her drink. She was ready to be told she was going to fall madly in love and have a long life full of happiness and money. Did anyone ever go to jail or get divorced several times in these scenarios?
Dorris, or as the small hand printed sign said Madame Thibodaux was so excited to see the real thing! Some came by and had a faint glow, but the gold shone like an 80 watt light bulb off this girl. "Don't be scared darlin I know what I'm doin." She put both of her tiny wrinkled hands on her chest. "I am Madame T." She winked a sparkling brown eye. "Hi I'm Mayson, I, I've never done this before." Give me your palm right here, gotta be sure I haven't been knocked in the noggin about my vibe about you."
Mayson instantly loved the Cajun accent thick with French. It reminded her of her grandpa and put her a little more at ease. This could be fun, even if it was just for play. She chugged more of her drink. "Just git me that han child" Madame T reached over her table and greedily took Mayson's hand with both of hers and pressed it palm up holding firmly with both her strong thumbs. She burst into a long verse of French. (I knew it she is a fae, royal that white hair is real and the bone structure so delicate she is from the Acadiana mound.) "This is what I thinkin" she burst out in english. Madame T looked up at Mayson. "binvenue back, welcome home child." Mayson just gave a questioning grin both her charcoal eyebrows shot up in alarm. "Ok I'll bite, what do you mean?" "mm yes, ya" Madame T kept up with her examination of her hand. "My cocotte ya must be lonely wit out him, ya? But he's comin this away, soon!" Mayson shook her head and glared. "Sure how much do I have to pay you to hear all about him?" "Nuttin I tell ya to have this opportunitee, well just let me look." She rubbed over where Mayson's wrist connected to her hand. "You got to dream about tis?" Madam T glanced up quickly. "Do you have vivid dreams, de javue?" "Well sure, yes doesn't everyone?" Mayson asked. "tol me your dreams Technicolor sometimes? Fairies are so eclatant, so bright compared to we" Mayson started to chuckle in bursts "uhm fairies huh?"
She was thinking of the several tattoos she had on her body, all fairies in bright colors. She always dreamed about, uhm.. naa, all girls love fairies, don't they? "Ok I'm gnawing on the bone now! How much to tell me all?" Madame T dropped her hand in frustration. "Hush cherie I will tell you but it is very complique, a hard reading. Some things are obvious others ehh. I don't know if I should reconter the tale." Maybe it was the drink, the heat but Mayson was now convinced this women was going to give her some juicy stuff. "O please tell me."

"Well where do I commencer? a disclaimer yes." Madame T took a deep breath. "This isn't precis but the stuff that's for true. I will try"
"Ok I can deal with that" Mayson rushed. "You have reproduir, you soul has visited many times. At least four times and always here. "Here, here earth, here human?" Mayson asked. Madam T laughed from her chest deep and gentle. "Yes child always a women, here is New Orleans." She pointed to the base of the wrist. "This jumble of lines has sometin to do with it. See I tink you were once undying, probably a fea and your mound must be around here that's for true. Huh I'm just thinkin out loud there has always been gossip. This is New Orleans we have all the rumors. Vampires, ghosts, werewolves and yes my momma was always warning me to never follow the fireflies or I might slip into a hole. Maybe there was somtin bout that?" Mayson just starred mouth a gawk. "what tha trouble bout this is, look here." Madame T traced one long deep line up the center of Mayson's palm. "See tis second line? It is connected der at the bottom of your hand and it twists in and out of ta main line. Both of em are deep these are your only love lines. Yours and his. Deep love, souls connected. Only one other little scratch, just der." She used her red painted nail to show Mayson the faint chicken scratch imprinted on her skin. Madame T looked up with watery eyes. "you poor cherie you must have just passed each other in histoire. See here where they twist together just once. I can't think every time only the one same love. Most people have many. What I feel here is that longin the missin you must have gone through I guarantee. Maybe that is what the trouble is with all your short lives. I hope this man." She pointed again to the thin line. "I hope he comforted you at least. You had children togehter." Madame T let go sniffed and patted her eyes. She looked up at Mayson her pale brown eyes full of pity and it was unbearable to hold her gaze. Mayson looked away and down at her drink. She should be laughing o you silly girl. Instead she had tumbled down the rabbit hole. She was lonely. She had dated in high school and during her travels but nothing serious. She had always tried to fill that emptiness with sex, too much sex in some people's opinions, but it helped with the emptiness. The exhilaration put a brief patch on the darkness. Could this be real?
"But why, why do I never get to be with him? Where is he now?' Madame T breathed deeply and grabbed Mayson's hand again. "I'm not sure why, maybe just bad ju ju, punishment? But here, here Cherie look." She poked her nail at the love lines. This is the present, the two lines will connect that's for true. See they stay wrapped so long." The women allowed another great loud laugh turning into a giggle. "You get to be together! You can be happy girl, your love. Not just A love but your love. You get to be with him!"
Mayson couldn't help but laugh and smile along with this crazy women. Could this really be true? Would this fill her? "That is wonderful how will I know she asked?" "You will, you two are one. Tis pulling you together like a piece of metal to a magnet." Madame T clapped her hands together in delight, but then she paused. "Don't you see you can be completed what tha trouble" She pointed to Mayson's chest. "This sadness I see it like a stormy cloud. You got to be filled with light cherie . Powers that be have given you peace it is coming I guarantee." Mayson looked hard at the Cajun women and her green apple eyes started to well with tears. "Cherie I know it is hard to think me true but me momma taught me and her momma before her, we are touched. It is silly to be here in the Square. I know, but I do it for this. It is so wonderful to meet a creature like you. "He is just over the horizon that's for true. See look this shows me you have a fear, a paralyzing fear of snakes." Madame T pointed to a spot on her hand. "It happened here at the beginning. You have several dear friends that have been connected to you here with you now, and this and even this time as she stabbed my hand in several spots." Mayson jerked her hand away from the women thinking true so true. She had to get away from all this. She shoved away from the table. "Thank you, thank you for this." she whispered. "You got to be happy Cherie, come visit me again please." Madame T yelled as Mayson stumbled away in a daze
She made her way to the walkway that kept the river company, flopped down on a bench and started to cry. Silent big alligator tears. Would she really get to love? To trust love? Not sex, not your good enough for now. Instead no matter what love? Is that why she ran away in panic from Bennet? He had wanted to get married and she had broke up with him. A wall had to be replaced the fist holes of anger from him had been too serious to patch. Or Owen? She had really thought she liked him for awhile. Safe Owen, who had worshipped her. Out of nowhere fear and claustrophobia had taken over her and she had drove out of Alaska in the middle of the night . Choosing to be with boys that were unavailable one way or another? She started to laugh a bit hysterically. She didn't need therapy, she needed a palm reader. Well ok then so he was out there. Even though it was silly to buy into it all, it gave her hope. Who wouldn't be happy to know a true love existed?
